Part 4 - Toto, We are Not in Kansas Anymore. 3 years ago

(from Tin Man)
Lyrics:
Sometimes late when things are real
And people share the gift of gab between themselves
Some are quick to take the bait
And catch the perfect prize that waits among the shelves

But Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn’t, didn’t already have
And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the Tropic of Sir Galahad.

So please believe in me
When I say I’m spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain bright color
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsuds green like bubbles

Questions:
  1. What’s the perfect prize on the shelf?
  2. What did the Tin Man already have and isn’t that a great line?
  3. Where or What is the Tropic of Sir Galahad?
  4. Some consider the “Sir Galahad” line to be one of the worst in all of rock history…what’s your vote?
  5. Is the line “Soapsuds green like bubbles” even worse?
  6. Does “bubbles” really rhyme with “colors” and how would you re-write the last line to make it better?
  7. Who is the best band: Toto, Kansas or America?

I don't know anything....

...but I like Toto more than Kansas, and I like Kansas more than America.

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what’s right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure whats deep inside, frightened of this thing that I’ve become

This is a tough call

I like America’s stuff (hence this goal). “Point of No Return” by Kansas ROCKS. But you have a point about “Africa” too. Damn, I better put the radio on the 70’s station for a while and see if I can break the deadlock.

Thanks for playing and if it helps, it probably works better if you don’t know anything. :) FYI, I am working on another entry that examines the connection of America lyrics and a certain 80’s pop icon…more to come.

I’ll have Aiden put various Toto, Kansas, and America songs on his iPod for us to listen to on the drive home and see if we can’t come up with an intelligent comment or two.

I’ve owned the Kansas album since I don’t know when (which is why I called it an ALBUM!). We only recently acquired America on the iPod. I’m not even sure if Aiden has Toto. Must fix that!!!!

Blue October Instead

My mix-master dj den wasn’t feeling the 70’s vibe in the ride. So he spun some Blue October. Maybe I can get him to do requests today…

Flirt is back in business - WOO HOO!!! is having a healthy dose of Internet today!

I don't know about you...

but I’mstill in KANSAS!!!

As for which group is better, that’s hard to say, but it’s between America, who I saw in Kansas, in 1978, and Kansas, whom I have never seen anywhere in America. As for whether I’ve seen Toto, well, that’s my little secret!!!

P.S. Of course everybody knows, the Tin Man already had a HEART!!!

Tin Man and Flirt both have

HEART

What about seeing Ozzy in Kansas? I’ll have to consult the Wizard on that one.

I've never met Ozzyy in Kansas (or anywhere else)

but his son Ricky said hello to me and then said goodbye to his heart!!! ;-)
