If this is something that you REALLY want to do, you really can! Just realize these 3 things:

1 – Your first song may not sound quite as polished as Radiohead, who have been writing and performing for ages.

2 – The best inspiration for songs will always hit when least expected, so always bring a notebook everywhere you go, and a mini-recorder if you can.

3 – Never, EVER, throw away a song idea because you don’t like the way that it sounds. If you have one, just write it down or record it. Put it in the back of a drawer or closet or something. You may come back to it later, and change your mind about it.

Treat writing songs the same as getting into shape: start out small. You can’t write a symphony in a day, and if you can’t get passed one line, that’s alright. Never force it if it’s not coming.
