love my scar (read all 5 entries…)
low backed shirts 4 years ago

Been wearing tank tops and tube tops that expose the top part (ugliest part) of my scar off and on while i’m in Houston visiting my parents. Thing is, I only wear them when I know I’d only be seeing those I know fairly well or people I won’t ever see again..

On the several tame dates that I’ve been on, I consciously wore high back shirts.

So still not quite there yet.

You are making a ton of progress—don’t expect to change overnight. It still takes a lot of courage to do this before people you don’t know. Congratulations!

=)

You don’t have to love it… in fact, eventually you’ll probably just forget about it. The only time I think about mine is when someone/thing accidentally scratches it shudders

Practice wearing a swimming suit around the house… then take a risk and go to the beach =) I always figured that if people were bothered by it they can just not look. In reality though, most people probably don’t even notice.

Maybe we should get butterfiles tattooed at the base of our necks so that people will HAVE to look at it =)

Just don’t forget… you are beautiful no matter what and a glob of skin tissue won’t ever change that =)

heh. butterfly tattoo.. hmmm

heheh

actually i had never thought about a tattoo until i started reading your posts… now, i’m thinking maybe that would be fun!

My scoliosis scar is all globby because they had to do the surgery twice… i’m also really overweight so the center of my back looks kind of sunken in… it feels kind of weird… i still have numbness in parts of my back skin. but if that’s the worst thing i have to deal with, i’m doing alright =)

hmmm… i wonder how much tattoos cost around here

mine was from scoliosis too. :) hello fellow.

Jimbo37 is still cleaning house

Keep at it!

My daughter has numerous scars from her equally numerous surgeries to correct a birth defect. She’s 14 so she’s dealing with all that growing-up BS too. She wrote a story about “The Girl with 13 Scars” which I told her would make a great little ‘zine. It think she’s almost forgotten about the scars on her back because she can see the ones on her stomach so much more easily. She’s been venturing out into wearing those midriff-exposing shirts that make fathers’ hearts stop.

I just wanted to encourage you. You’re helping others too.
