Hitting a wall 3 years ago

After a few years I have picked up this piece to try finishing. I really am not liking the face yet (hence the practice carvings). I think maybe 5-6 more tries and I might be ready to carve on the actual piece. I have been trying to stay true to Mucha’s original, but I think I would like to thin out her nose and change her expression to something that pleases me more.

Are you crazy?!!

I think that’s amazing. You have incredible talent! I tried leatherworking when I was much younger and couldn’t make anything that didn’t look like total crap.

I really enjoy teaching others leatherworking. I am working on some tutorial sections for my website (still don’t have that done yet either – hey a good new goal!) People are amazed at “how it’s done.” Many think the design is embossed with one large die.

The more I look at the practice piece, the more I like the “finished” version in the middle (actually the first one I carved!) I think that I keep trying to put too much detail into the mouth area. I would like to do some work on faces later, just much larger.

Thanks again. I am taking some vacation during the holidays and hopefully I can make some major progress on this piece.
