run for president of the united states
Where to start 3 years ago

So I want to use my talents, vision, and energy to help our nation and the world in the future. Where does one start such an amazing and sometimes crazy proposition?

I’ve decided to start with defining myself first. Thank you Marty, my freshman year of college poli sci professor, for making me take Personality and Politics.

So the quest for the presidency begins with the question:
Who am I?

Some advice?

I think about John Roberts. There was no substantial record of his position on just about anything. So my advice, live your life like you’re already running. How would this statement, or what I am doing right now, look on the front page of the NY Post?

It is a difficult road ahead. Good luck. Maybe one day, we can say, we knew you when…

I think you're right

I think what we need most are some leaders who are real. Who lived their lives purposefully but not with severe calculation.

I already have a reputation of being honest and forthright with people. The challenge will be can I navigate the political world and not sacrafice the commitment to being real?

absolutely

You’ll need to do a lot of listening and hold on to a lot of empathy. You can’t be afraid to make mistakes and learn from everything you expereince.

I think the real challenge will be when you need to raise money for your campaigns. What will you be willing to sacrifice? It’s a tough situation and one that has kept me from running for public office. Do you think that taking money from certain organizations or companies or individuals will compromise you or taint you and if so, will you have the strength to refuse?

Agreed

There’s a third type of person in politics. But we haven’t seen one of them in quite a while.

They’re the type of person who doesn’t wait for a sign to emerge or the wind to blow in order to take to walking the path that needs to be taken – even if it’s that proverbial road less traveled. I’m not suggesting I am that type today, but my challenge is to not just become a politician. My challenge is to be a leader.

America could use a few great leaders again. I won’t ask others to follow me down that path unless I’m committed to being a leader from day one.

Thanks for your comments.

scooterbird may have gotten the job after all

May the best person win

I’ve a feeling you may be an opponent of mine, someday…or perhaps we’ll end up in the same party. Who knows?

I wish you the best of luck in what you do.

See you on the trail

Scooterbird…i’ll look for you on the campaign trail. 20 years will be here before we know it!
