It takes time!
My collection is about 400 movies big. But as in any collection, quantity only matters until it reaches a certain critical mass. After that, quality of collection gets far more important: I’ve recently started to throw out movies that “don’t belong” in my collection to bring it to a higher standard.
My recommendations to build a good collection:
-> Don’t buy DVDs just because you want to see them. Or if you do, prepare to sell them on eBay afterwards.
-> Categorize wisely. You might find out a lot about your own movie taste that way.
-> Buy second-hand. It’s not VHS.
