make friends in Providence (read all 2 entries…)
um... 3 years ago

So I’m not really doing a very good job at this goal. I have reasons and excuses but I need to change something and start trying to meet people. My work is a long ways away and most of my coworkers are significantly older than I am. I get along with many of them well, and feel comfortable talking to them or grabbing dinner when we have to stay late for a function, but it’s not like we socialize outside of school. I live with my boyfriend and I’m generally pretty happy just watching movies and cooking dinner with him. And we live in a very collegiate neighborhood, but for the most part the college kids just piss me off by wandering around drunk and loud.

I just don’t know how to meet people, and it’s so much easier to just stay at home after a long day at work and long drives to and from. So what should I do? I don’t know what’s up with the book club thing, I missed the first meeting last week and although I emailed to apologize, the girl hasn’t emailed me back. I’m thinking about joining an exercise class, pilates or dance or something.

Not having friends here sucks, but on the upside I’ve definitely made friends with Providence… I really like Rhode Island.
