Go to library school
Worth doing!
Sooooo worth it — 3 years ago
I’m working in a profession that might seem completely unrelated now, but it was my MLIS that opened those doors. The world would be a better place with more librarians running things…

I’m currently in library school and am thinking about which direction to take. Obviously the best route would be the “tech” route, but it seems as if a library degree is a really versatile one. You don’t actually HAVE to work in a library. I’d be interested to hear what path you took, given that you also have a law degree. I’m just glad to hear you say that it was worth it!
I work for a very big high tech company. You undoubtedly have heard of the company, but they take a dim view of us identifying ourselves in fora such as these, so I won’t. :^)
After graduating from law school, I immediately began work in the law library. (Actually, I’d worked there much of the time in law school, too, even while clerking.) I did reference and technology, and realized that if I wanted to move in the profession, I’d need the MLS. Picked that up through a distance ed program that was tied to (& largely identical to) one of the top-ranked programs in the US.
Then the student loans hit. Jumped out, jumped into high tech, and survived the dot-bomb era.
Interestingly, I may end up working at my corporation’s library at some point in the future. Won’t be right now, but we’re talking about possibilities later.
