be happy for the rest of my life

Why I have given up.  — 1 year ago

I haven’t been on here in MONTHS . . Long time no talk! Haha . .

. . anyway, I’ve realized that if you’re happy ALL the time, and never know pain or suffering or sadness, then you can’t really appreciate the happy times for what they’re worth. Because if everything was happy, . . nothing would be. This is kind of an abstract concept, but the only reason people desire something is because their lives are lacking it NOW. So without the sadness of wanting something but not having it, actually achieving your goal would be meaningless.

You’re right. Sad times are inevitable, and should be embraced as passionately as happy times. But it’s important not to let yourself be convinced that it’s one way or the other only. Ying + Yang and all that jazz.

Thank you!

Very much, haha. I am slightly cynical, but I know that good times do exist. I appreciate your comment :)
