Use the words love and hate sparingly but mean them when i say them
Two Very strong words 3 years ago

LOVE & HATE
These must be two of the strongest words describing feelings in the English language.
I find that most people use them everyday and not mean them.
When I say either of these words I want to mean them.
Next time you say ” I love you ” mean it!
Don’t just say it for the sake of saying it

I never learn

This entry reminds me of the lesson I learned in OAC english class from reading The Outsider by Albert Camus…we say the word ‘love’ so often that it really does lose it’s sincerity. How can you “love” a pair of shoe as much as you love your mother? I guess for some people that might be true now that I think about it!

You’re right, ‘love’ should be used with discretion…and while I’m not saying to use the word less as it’s a lovely word it’s important to make note of what it is that we really “love”...because somehow, hearing, “I honestly, really do…no, but the real kind…love you” is somehow less convincing than the original 3 words.

jooyoung is studying alot.

yes, words are really important...

I dunno the love though, I have a friend from japan and when she moved here we would eat some kind of food and she would sigh and smile and so matter-of-factly: awwww (sighingly) I love it.

She got me saying it too. Acknowledging the things you love in life, humor, music, food, dancing, poetry etc. I think is really a wondergul thing to use the word love for. Try it today, you might enjoy it, Just sigh, and say in a matter of factlyish voice. That joke is so funny, sigh, I love it.

There all different types of saddnesses or angers or ‘emotional ills’ in this world but our happiness comes from one source. It’s just like how we have one type of health but there are all different types of illnesses.

Futhermore, I wanted to send some congrats your way with the whole careful with words thing, people don’t think about what is coming out of their mouths, even stuff like:

I’m just not good at that, that’s just not me I am bad at doing etc … I’m just not talented.. I’m just not. I’m not, I’m not, I’m not!!!!

Ahhh!

The more we say things like this to ourselves the more we cage ourselves in, label ourselves and our abilities making it more difficult to grow and learn new skills or see the world beyond some kind of lense we create through our use of ‘limitation based’ vocabulary.

Peace!!!

By saying things like “I’m just not good at that, that’s just not me I am bad at doing etc … I’m just not talented ect”

we are putting so much negative thoughts out there about ourselves that we already have a negative perception about something before we even do it or even after we do something like after 1 painting class and you find it hard people are like “I’m crap at painting” but its before you have even given something a chance. Its sending out all this bad and negative energy about ourselves and other people can pick up on that.

Sometimes it is ok to babble on a bit, but you also have to think of the consequences of what you are saying.
You might say something that might hurt someone without even thinking about it.

Its fine to say oh i love your perfume or i love that chocolate, I say it too don’t get me wrong, but when it comes to saying ’ I love you’ between two people thats what I’m really getting at.

It is a word that sometimes is just said for the sake of saying or (sorry for being so blunt about this but I’m not one for beating around the bush) getting someone in the sack.

It is a word that should be taken seriously between two people that are ready to commit to each other.

Thank you for putting so much thought into what you said :)

“Speech is conveniently located midway between thought and action, where it often substitutes for both.”

- John Andrew Holmes

“Lots of people act well, but few people talk well. This shows that talking is the more difficult of the two.”

- Oscar Wilde
