know the names of the constellations (read all 2 entries…)
Deneb, Vega, Altaïr

Deneb is the shining star of the Cygnus constellation.
Vega, of the Lyra.
Altaïr, of the Aquila.

Theory is good. Practise is better. Paris, light off tonight, please !

Disasterous blessings.

The power went out in my town two nights ago. Before the moon rose, you could see the Milky Way. It was beautiful.

For me, the vanishing night sky is a painful lost heritage. The pain of absent beauty is only intensified by the realization that more illumination results in lowered visibility because of the contrast between light and shadow. And all to illuminate that through which we would rather sleep!

was the moon full ? :)

A bit less than half...

It was the same for you. Can’t see much with a full moon. It happened about midnight, and the moon hadn’t risen yet.

I know, i was teasing you.
Here, in Paris, the only one star i’m able to see is Deneb, right up to the zenith.
It’s a little bit, but it’s enough to make my day. Or, more accurately, my night.

That's why...

they call it the city of lights!

I don’t know where is good to obeserve in France. (Certainly not the Observatory of Paris, interesting though it be.)
At least you have girolles!

I didn’t figured out where Outersquishysucculentspiralarm is, but here in France, the Perseides (summer nights full of shooting stars) usually take place around the 10th of August. Thanks for the information !
