Write a list of 43T from my childhood that are truly Canadian and make sure my children get to do the same (read all 7 entries…)
24. And, of course, Mr. Dressup 2 years ago

We used to watch Mr. Dressup all the time when we were kids. He had some pretty cool friends,(Casey and Finnegan)who lived in the backyard in a tree house. His tickle trunk was always full of neat costumes for putting on plays. We loved Mr. Dressup so much, that we begged our mother to let us use her old trunk as a tickle trunk. We kept it well-stocked with my Mom and Dad’s old clothes. We loved dressing up to watch the show.

My parents took us to meet him when he came to Perth one day. There were hundreds of kids waiting in line to meet him that day. I still have his autograph in my ‘tickle trunk’ back home.

Comments:

My Mom Used to Call Him Mr. Pukeup....

As she wasn’t really a big fan.( which is rather obvious isn’t it)...in fact, I think she hated the guy!....but I liked him! And his great costumes he had, and the drawings he would make for us all! I now have trunks full of “dress-up” clothes I have been collecting for years, and plan on winning the award for the “Grandma With The Best Dress up Boxes” EVER!....(Of coarse this being a goal for the far future…being my son is but a young lad !) But I still can’t wait to be that little old Bitty playing dress-up with my grand kids one day…and if I don’t get any of my own…well I’ll just have to steal somebody Else’s then!!(that or be the “Loony Lady” from down the street layered in odd bits of clothing , and wearing Pirate hats, Peter Pan tights , and Dracula capes , and a Rainbow Clown Wig to church and the grocery store each day….I think I could Pull the look off…)....can’t believe you have his Autograph!!! some people have all the luck

You're gonna be the coolest grandma ever!

I wish I could see your tickle trunk. I bet you’ve got some amazing things.

We used to love playing in ours. It belonged to my Mom and is still decorated with all the cards she recieved from her special friends when she was a child. We used to snatch all her old clothes and shoes. Gosh, she had the coolest pair of red shoes that I loved to clomp around in. It’s a wonder I never broke my leg.

Hee hee….now I’ve got a mental picture of you storming the aisles at the local grocery store in all sorts of bizarre costumes.

RUNRGRL wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year needs to either let 43 things go or get back into it

Loved it!

I loved Mr.Dressup , and of course the Tickle Trunk which was naturally the best part of the show. In fact I was just talking with my sister the other day about up coming Christmas and what to get all the nieces and nephews and she mentioned the idea of dressup clothes which I gave a hearty approval. I have always wanted a tickle trunk for my daughter my trouble is expanding my own imagination and hunting for the right things. I also remember him doing great little crafts.

A tickle trunk

doesn’t really require much imagination. My parents would throw anything that was old, worn or ugly into the trunk and we’d take care of the rest.

Funtash ~ carpe annum ~

As a child, my husband was in a diner out west somewhere (cross Canada road trip) and Mr.Dressup was a few tables away. So, of course he got to meet him. And I swear his eyes still light up when he talks about that day.

I haven't met

many Canadian folks who haven’t heard of him or didn’t love watching his show on TV. He is a true Canadian icon.

Favourite tv show

Mr. Dressup my favourite tv show growing up. I was always amazed at how well he could draw anything.
