JulieJordanScott is looking out at a White Canvas New Year

Start a Creativity Camp and Artist's Retreat (read all 19 entries…)
Location, Location, Location 2 years ago

I was standing outside my local Carrow’s this morning after eating a Power Breakfast (a secret delight of mine is going out for breakfast alone on occasion and reading the newspaper, drinking coffee and smiling to myself…)

I was looking out over Bakersfield from the hilltop location, feeling so… well… long overdue in leaving here… yet I also know I am committed until Katherine graduates from EBHS in early June 2010.

It made me think… this is the perfect time to start looking and perhaps, collaborate on Mini-Camps, short term camps and retreats prior to “the big thing”.....

It just felt good to actually have the space in my brain to open to ideas again.

Life is so good. I am so grateful.

Comments:

Why didn't I realize you were almost local?

MiniCamps sound great. Sound doable. I’m interested in some level of participation. And I don’t want to wait until 2010!!!

I am in Bakersfield... and you are in L.A. somewhere

so yes, almost local.

Yes on the do-able.

Have any spaces in mind?

The Onion in North Hills (about where the 118 crosses the 405) is an incredible spot. I know they’ve rented their space out before. I’m not sure what they charge any more.

The main building is totally round, about 40’ in diameter. The acoustics are phenomenal but unusual. One doesn’t dare whisper secrets about a person sitting opposite them, yet when you stand at the center, you cannot hear yourself (but others can). It takes some getting used to. It’s a wonderful space, though. Incredibly good energy, too.

Here’s a link to a satellite image of The Onion

Cool!

I will check this place out! I know exactly the location, but I didn’t know of “The Onion”!

I've had lots of kisses inside

but the inhabitants think of it as their onion. That’s a groovy concept, though (thanks for reminding me I don’t say that enough).

limits...

...”I am committed until Katherine graduates”

creativity is not born with limits. it is unfortunate, at least in my work and observations, that ones creative voice is often silenced for little more than ones ability to ask

“how can i do this now?”

i very much like my understanding of mozart am compelled to write…at times it is painful to do otherwise.

it is tragic that so many will work through the pain of their screaming creativity only to have their flame become a flicker.

i am not sure what you wish to accomplish with your camp and still i would offer that the gift of embracing ones creativity in spite of everything else is the gift that you will ultimately share.

so your committed, does that mean your commitment is exclusive?

with care,

james

excellent question....

I am letting it percolate… will respond more later today… (Using it as a writing prompt, probably over several days… as well as a walking meditation… mmmmmmmmmmmm)

mahinui It's all happening...all of it!

have you been going to camps?

sometimes when you have a great idea it is better to as you say let it percolate and stay original with you.

an idea like yours is like a seed of grass. it has a tail that will make it stick places, and where it sticks and can grow is its perfect spot.

2010 is not really far off. It’s just far enough to gather your resources.

The only thing I would offer just now, besides encouragement, is the observation that no matter what you hear about the “real estate market”, land and such is not getting cheaper. And on the off chance you might be as amazed as I was, here is a web site where you can look at land for sale in Hawaii. Who knows, that might be your spot.

No, I haven't

and excellent information!

My heart is calling me to camp, though. Soon. And you are right, 2010 is feeling closer than ever…..

JulieJordanScott has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
