Watch every Kubrick film (read all 8 entries…)
load up the queue 2 years ago

I loaded The Killers, Killer’s Kiss, and Lolita in my Netflix Queue. That’ll leave Paths of Glory, A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon. The last two there I am least interesting in seeing. But, I will.

A Clockwork Orange

is my favourite Kubrick flick. That’s what snagged my interest in the first place! I suppose I enjoyed it because it is a lot deeper than it seems with all the ‘Ultra Violence’ and really tells something about the age that we are living in. I have been disappointed with the others I have seen…like spartacus, the Flying Padre and Dr Strangelove (talk about weird – I didnt get it!) Anyway, I think you will like A Clockwork Orange.

What’s your favourite so far?

favorite

My favorite so far is either Dr Strangelove or Full Metal Jacket.

But, see, I’ve read the Anthony Burgess book A Clockwork Orange and knowing the content of what the movie is based on (and disliking the book) is a bit of a turn off for me.

Lolita

I think it’s great. It definitely beats the pants off the Adrian Lyne version of the late 90s. Lyne was able to get away with a lot more overt sexuality while Kubrick had to use a lot more subtlety. Plus, Nabokov wrote the screenplay for Kubrick’s version and I have to lean towards anything the author himself was involved in.
