Year Two--halfway through 2 years ago

Well, semester three of PhD is almost under my belt. Hope my grades are good…

One more semester of coursework to go (in England!) and then I’ll be preparing to take my comps—but I don’t want to think about that yet.

Thanks!

It’s been my dream for a long time, and coming back to school was one of the best life decisions I’ve made. The coursework, sadly, is the easy part—although it doesn’t seem like it right now. Comps and my dissertation are killers. But you’re right. I didn’t go this far to go back, and I can’t think of anything else I’d rather do with my life.

Yeah, you're right

And sometimes I forget that there are people out there to help me. I really don’t have to do it all by myself.

Woo hoo!

In England—that’s great. What’s your area of specialization?

thanks!

In England I’ll be studying Victorian literature and culture, and I’m so excited. I just bought my plane ticket today!

And my specialization is 19th and 20th century British literature.

That's

great. I’m no expert (tho’ I was an English major), but I’ve always liked Victorian literature—well, anything British from that century, really. I have a cat named Brontë. :0)

I hope you have a wonderful time (I bet you will).

I love Victorian lit

and I’m very into mid-nineteenth century novels right now. I’ve been reading Wilkie Collins lately.

But while I’m there, I’m going to be taking a course called The Country Manor House in Literature. We’re supposed to read lit about the manor house and then we get to visit local manors. I’m so excited about this one.

I think I’ll have a wonderful time too.
