joie de vivre going green in solidarity with the people of Iran

Bicycle through the winter (read all 25 entries…)
A little damp out there, eh? 2 years ago

You know it’s really raining when…

...it’s coming down not in drops, but sheets
...you can see better without your glasses than with them
...you squeeze a stream of water out of your gloves at a stop
...you can feel the water sloshing in your shoes

Care to add some of your own?

I was riding down 173rd, singing at the top of my lungs:

“If all of the raindrops/Were lemondrops and gumdrops/Oh what a rain it would be!/I’d stand outside with my mouth open wide/a-a-a-a-a-a-a” (tune here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/music/wma-pop-up/B00004W55I001003/ref=mu_sam_wma_001_003/102-8653170-7432168)

Some hapless pedestrian was walking down the road. He jumped out of my way, probably frightened by this insane woman singing Barney tunes in such a downpour in the dark.

Comments:

If all the raindrops...

...were lemon drops and gum drops, wouldn’t that make your shoes heavy, and your glasses sticky? :)

The Rain Song

The river babbling down Honda Hill was impressive, but it kept-a-coming. I was fortunate in that the wind wasn’t too bad until the last jaunt up Black Nugget, knocking out the street lights. From there to home was mostly dark.

I was opting for the older, Led Zeppelin song:

This is the springtime of my loving-
The second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing-
So little warmth Ive felt before.
It isnt hard to feel me glowing-
I watched the fire that grew so low.

You know it’s really raining when…
... the water kicked up by your front tire crosses the path of your bike light, making a sparklers.
... you notice the hypnotic, angular patterns cast by the rain under the street lights
... you are kicking plumes of water up onto cars, not the other way around
... your post-ride hot shower is dryer

For the rush hour ride home

They said it rained 6/10s of an inch between 5:30 and 6:30. That’s a fair bit of rain for an hour.

Jim, your power still out?

We're back

We’ve got power and internet. Nearly all of Issaquah and half of Factoria are still out.

When did you get power back?

We don't have power on yet

We’re hanging out at my work place. There’s heat, light, hot water, and internet connections here.

Considering the trees that fell on our local substation, I expect that it’ll be Monday, at the soonest, that we’ll have power.

Call me if you need a place...

It’ll be cozy, but I’m sure we can find couch/floor space for you all if you need a warm place to stay tonight; also have showers and free wireless if you want to use them tomorrow ;-) (And I just roasted coffee beans yesterday.)

joie de vivre has gotten 2 cheers on this entry.
