feel the peace that tolerance brings
I believe that 2 years ago

tolerance towards ourselves and others is a huge step towards gaining peace in the world.

Comments:

I agree

And on a good day, I can move past tolerance to acceptance!

I like...

...that you included “ourselves” to that sentiment. Some people are way too hard on themselves.

I agree

And I love the way you have expressed it. Simple but moving words.

More Tolerance = more peace…the whole world needs jillions of buckets of each. So you keep sprinkling yours and I’ll keep sprinkling mine. What a beautiful garden full of peace and tolerance will surround us when our time here is done….Have a great day!

You too!

What a wonderful comment you have left, one that has brought a smile to my face. Thank you!!! :)

Are you one of those who are too hard on themselves?

Your comment is a great thought. Tolerance means acceptance and not being judgmental. As you point out, these are important points to remember towards ourselves as well as towards others.

And while tolerance gives us a peaceful feeling, we need to learn to extend the same feeling no matter what the situation is. I know this does not sound easy, but if one wants to achieve a peaceful life, then one has to learn not to let all the other things outside of our own lives cause us stress.

How do we not let things outside of our own lives cause us stress? First, we have to have unconditional love for ourselves. This is very similar to having tolerance for ourselves. Secondly, we have to realize that there is nothing we can do about things over which we have no control. For example, losing a wallet with $100 (or £100) can be a very stressful moment. But getting stressed out will not help. What will help is calmly remembering where you may have placed the wallet or what could have happened. In the end, if you end up not being able to recover the wallet, there is nothing you can do about it. It’s lost. “Not stressing over it” is not the same as “not caring”. Of course you care about the lost money. Of course you’ll do what you can to find the lost money. But stressing out about it does not help you recover the money.

Going back to the point about what you things have or do not have control over… At the point in time when you lost the wallet, maybe you could have done something at that point in time… but after it is done, then it is done. You cannot go into a time machine to go back to when you dropped the wallet. While it is disheartening to lose money, stressing about it only makes you feel worse, both emotionally and physically, too. Anyway, this was just an example, but hopefully it can illustrate an approach on how to have a happier life by not letting things outside of your control affect how you feel.
