i never wanted to either. people used to think i was very arrogant. then, i realised it’s because i am actually a shy person (my friends will all laugh at this now) and quite private. i didn’t know how to start a conversation. i would rather someone start speaking to me first. i didn’t like to ask people too many questions because i wouldn’t want people asking ME too many questions; i thought it to be prying. i just used to like to listen.
as i got older, i saw how others moved forward and progressed in the world with their chattiness and friendliness. i decided that it is something i would have to learn to do. i had the natural ability but i was inhibited. working in a hotel helped. and i think with age, that certain confidence sets in.
as with other things that don’t come naturally, it takes effort. i am such a social butterfly now with the confidence to communicate with anyone. i still have to work at it though.
