be pain free (read all 2 entries…)
Sometimes a goal unatainable 2 years ago

I’m hoping that one day Ill wake up and not need to take my pain meds… to one day be able to bend down and not have the thought of having another disc rupture/slip again.. I applaud anyone that can meet or exceed their personal goals for pain management. Having chronic pain affects all aspects of your life down to the smallest detail.. its the driving factor behind some of your decision making and its a daily part of your life that can be so hard to get away from.. Sometimes the cures (surgery/medication) can be just as hurtful and destructive as the original problem, and sometimes they can cause problems of their own.

I think that one of the biggest keys to winning or atleast positively maintaining your pain management war is to build a support group(Friends and Family) around you that will be understanding and caring about your deliema, even though they might not understand it fully….

Thank you

I wanted to thank you for my baby comments hes very demanding but worth it… Im hoping that he never has to find out what this pain is like. I think that me & my doctors are planning on trying everything but surgery again, but it might be unavoidable again… Im keeping my fingers crossed!

part of the plan

Since you don’t have to “walk uphill, in the snow, barefoot, both ways” to get food for you baby you’ve been given the gift of pain.

In 16 years or so, when you deny use of the car and are referred to as a “pain in the …” you know have the chance to say “when you were a baby I was in so much pain, but did I complain, NO…”

You don’t think this will happen, but trust me, it will, or some variation of such. God has this strange way of putting a little bit of Jewish Mother In Law in all of us!

Chin up – you will get through this one.

lol

Thank you soo much for the comment, it is very true that we all have that “little bit of Jewish Mother In Law” in us. I cant wait till my baby is a teenager, anyone who knows me would agree to lol. I remember my mother just embarrassing the bejesus out of me all the time and now I love to do it to everyone around me 24/7 I’m sure that my son is gonna love me for that someday!

I know that I can handle the mental aspect of the pain, I’m just not sure if over time in the next 20 years if my organs will handle the medications… but only time will tell…

I have the same hope as you, Dustin. I had bilateral TMJ total joint replacements and have chronic jaw pain. My joint replacements were about 6 months ago, so over the holidays I decided to actually see what life would be like without the meds…. I detoxed off everything. It turns out that I need them. It’s disappointing but if you need something to function, I think it’s ok. But I do definitely believe in what you said about the cure sometimes being worse than the disease. Sometimes docs give so much medicine that it doesn’t really help. I’ve found that my pain level stinks but it’s roughly the same now (that I am on a lower amount of meds) than it was when I was on enough medication to tranquilize an elephant. So as long as you are true to yourself and re-evaluate your situation once and a while.. you’ll be good.
Thanks for writing this! :)

Dustin has gotten 8 cheers on this entry.
