I found my Solaris 10 certification books. There are 2 parts with 15 chapters total. I will set myself a goal of reading one chapter a week. Then I’ll take the practice test. So that should put me at mid-April to take the test.

Wow!
Is there a promotion in it for you or is Solaris more widely used than I thought?
I used to do a lot of work/programming for QNX, but that was a previous career. Small user community, but when we needed it, we really needed it. I haven’t followed up with version 6.x, but it looked like a real improvement – less proprietary and more Linuxish.
Solaris
There’s no promotion in it. My next promotion would have to be to management and I won’t go there! Been there, done that and have the emotional scars to prove it. :)
I’m currently the senior over the Solaris part of the Unix group where I work, and I haven’t gotten my certification because everyone else got to go to class and get certified while I got the systems up and running! (isn’t that always the way?) It was my choice, by the way. But it would definitely help if I decided to look for another job. And you never know; the wind over on the upper management side of the building seems to be whispering “out-sourcing”.
My group was primarily AIX until the first SUN server came in the door. I do have my AIX certification, although it could use some “refreshing”.
thanks for the cheer! :)
