get comfortable going out by myself (read all 2 entries…)
Sometimes awkward, totally worth it. 3 years ago

After trying a bunch of times and then going on a trip to Vegas on my own, I can say that I’m now comfortable going out by myself. It can get awkward at times – when you’re eating by yourself or going to a bar on your own (I didn’t try that one) – but most of the time, it’s not scary at all. In fact, it gives you a chance to think, people-watch, gather material for your blog, gain some self-confidence.

Try it! You can start off with baby steps: grab a coffee on your own, go grocery shopping or hang out at a bookstore, and then gradually work your way up to trips and meals.

I travel for work

so I’m often on my own in strange cities. The best thing I’ve found is to take a book or a notebook with me.
Then when I am sitting alone somewhere I have something to keep me busy.

I get alot of work done that way or else I get alot of reading out of the way.

In 8 years of traveling I’ve only had one place say they “felt sorry” for me because I was eating alone. LOL

Good idea!

I’ve started to carry a Moleskine specifically for this purpose.

Doesn’t it get in the way though when your food arrives and you have to eat and read at the same time? I would guess that it only works while you’re waiting…
