Become a certified Toastmaster
My first meeting 1 year ago

is going to be on January 17th. My company is kind enough to sponsor part of the membership fee. I’m looking forward to it!

You're doing better than I am.

I’m thinking of joining. I’ve been a guest for a few meetings where my mom goes. I’ve only been able to do a Table Topics if my mom was there – and there was barely anyone even at the meeting. I really dislike speaking to a crowd.
So it’s been a year it looks like. How is that going?

It’s going pretty well actually :) I started with toastmasters because suddenly I found myself having to deliver a speech in front of about 600 people.

I was like, darn! #$(*#$@! I’d better learn this public speaking thing fast to deliver minimum amount of lameness (and maximum amount of awesomeness).

To be frank, I wasn’t sure whether the 600 people actually listened to me or not. But I didn’t screw up really bad, I guess. So that was good.

And, the good thing about that is, afterwards, public speaking ain’t that scary anymore. An audience of 20 ain’t nothing :-)

I stopped going to toastmasters for now though. Been really, really busy…

You’re doing Table Topics!!! That’s pretty good I say!

Well..

I did Table Topics at a very informal meeting, there were 6 other people there and one of them was my mother, and I was still super nervous even though I was joking around with them and talking to everyone earlier. But imagine if it were a full meeting!! Gah!
Six hundred people though? That’s just terrifying!!
It’s funny though because when I was in grade 7 I co-MCed a spirit assembly at my school and I was painfully shy at the time. It was a small school but still, I don’t remember how (or why) I ever got involved in that.
