I haven’t posted anything concerning Amnesty. This is actually my first year with the group, and it’s very exciting for me. My focus has been finding a cure for AIDS and helping those with HIV/AIDS. Earlier in December I helped a friend who had organized a fundraiser for a local house that provided free testing and health care for those who are infected. We raised over a thousand dollars in a week from lunch-money donations.
There was also an event that we got involved with earlier in the fall. “Rock for Refuge.” If you’ve heard of the Invisible Children, this was a benefit to support them. If not, “Invisible Children” is a documentary that a few college guys produced. In it they detailed the lives of the children in Uganda who make a trek every night to a town where they can find refuge. If they don’t, these children will be forced into the army. Rock for Refuge was a concert whose proceeds benefited the Invisible Children.
I think in the spring we’re going to work with PeaceJam which is an annual thing where Nobel Peace Prize laureates come and talk and the rest of us try to make the world a better place. We’re going to come up with a workshop to talk about human trafficking, I think.
Anyway, if you haven’t, check out www.invisiblechildren.com.
Happy New Year to you too!
