About every holiday. It is barely New Year’s and I see Valentine’s Day stuff for sale already. I saw Christmas things before Hallowe’en season even began. Christmas of 2006 was so commercialized I felt no Christmas spirit whatsoever. The true meaning of Christmas is not about buying the latest thing for my nephews, but it has turned out that way. Very sad.

I agree
and what I do is strive to do something each Christmas that I know nourishes that true spirit of Christmas for me.
I love to sing and this year I organized a Christmas caroling gathering for my cohousing community. In other years I have attended “The Spirit of Christmas” play here in Seattle. It was very moving and beautiful.
Some years I don’t do much and I find myself feeling empty and without the spirit of Christmas about me but I realize now that I contribute to that by doing little or nothing. I can’t control the commercialism but I can control my own spirit of the season by what I choose to do and how I treat people.
