learn to knit socks
I knitted my first 2 socks!

One of my New Years Resolutions from 2006 was to learn to knit socks. It was a busy year, and I completely forgot that I made this goal until December 30th. So, on December 30th, I grabbed some yarn from my stash and looked up a basic pattern on the web, and popped out to the local craft store for some double-pointed needles. I had to start and re-start about 10 times, but by 11:15 on New Year’s Eve night, I completed my very first hand-knitted sock. It isn’t pretty (the only wool I had on hand was a dark gray), but it is warm and soft and finished. I have decided not to knit a mate for my ugly gray sock, but to frame it later.

Today (January 1st), I put on my one ugly gray sock and knit a pretty soft green sock for my daughter, and cast-on for it’s mate!

carabou set a pirate ship cake out to sail. Arrrr!

you knit me right round, baby!

Congratulations! I found knitting socks was the easiest way to learn intarsia (quicker than a sweater) and ended up with way too many wool socks (and an odd number, too). I live in Texas …
