I thought I had tried a vast sampling of world food, but Brazilian skipped my radar til now. At the invitation of my fiance’s old friend from high school, we met up at Green Forest for dinner last night. And it was incredible.

A churrascaria is basically a meat restaurant, and at Green Forest they offered us at least 12 kinds of meat brought around to each table on a sword fresh off the grill- multiple steaks, pork roast, ribs, sausage, turkey wrapped in bacon, etc., in unlimited quantities… thank heavens for the the little red/ green meat stoplights at each table- we had to slow it down.

On top of the piles of meat, the hot buffet was piled high with shrimp, salmon, potatoes, rice, and soup. The cold buffet offered delicious salads, seafood, and delicate antipasto. And they brought the table a heaping pile of fried bananas and potatoes to share. You’d think we would have been full, but we each ordered desserts- all of which were delicious- yum, flan! And the Brazilian coffee was just strong enough to kick us out of our chairs and into the night.

A little pricey for dinner for six ($300 including tip- with no cocktails- it’s BYOB), but a good alternate option to yet another nice steak house dinner for special occassions.
