When I do a backbend using a wall I get scared near then end and land on my elbows but I’m inches away. I can do a back bend where you start with one hand already on the floor and I can do one when someone supports under my back.

well if you can fall on your elbows, if you gather balance, you can most certainly do it. Just practice practice practice!

Top tip:
Put a big pile of cushions under where your head will land and this should help give you confidence to go all the way back.
Gradually decrease cushions and voila!

PS I am nearly 40 and I still practice backbends on a regular basis to maintain my flexibility! I hate the thought of getting old and frail and losing all my bendiness! My inspiration is my 80 year old yoga teacher who can still do backbends, headstands and all manner of amazing stuff!
