Help cure (American/Modern) Liberalism (read all 2 entries…)
This is getting insane

I thought or at least when I signed up for 43 Things that the purpose of the site was to help build each other up to help is accomplish what is important to us and become better people in the process. The resent overwhelming comment bombing of conservative goals of less than nice comments. The same with the resent elections where the general liberal strategy was to continue attacking Bush and then sideline the conservative candidates up for reelection by saying that they supported Bush and therefore need to go instead of proposing a better alternative strategy to the issues at stake. This nastiness and focusing on attacking people instead of coming up with alternative solution as potentially better solutions is the core aspect of modern liberalism that needs cured.

CC, You speak for

many of us 43T users.

Also, the more I am challenged here, I am certain it is good thing to continue to present a conservative opinion.

Most of the time, I will not challenge another’s beliefs, unless it hits a nerve. I believe in the US Constitution, and will continue to defend it again ALL enemies foreign or domestic, as best as I can (no longer being in the military). Even though the average US citizen does not take such an oath, I belive most all Americans support the US Constitution, and want to see ALL enemies foreign or domestic monitored and stopped.

What are "domestic enemies"

The concept of “domestic enemies” is so liberally interpreted lately that it’s hard to tell what one looks like.

While extreme, I think the least offensive example of incorrectly labeling of “domestic enemies” was that rather odd link between feminists, environmentalists, and homosexuals and the 9/11 attacks made by a well known televangelist.

It seems that in recent years virtually anyone who is not lock, stock, and barrel in line with Bill O-Reilly is considered un-American. (and by inference a threat to our way of life)

Just a few short years ago Pat Robertson freely used the word terrorists in discussions of environmentalist. Yet today the most well behaved Evangelical Christians are embracing the environmental movement as a part of their stewardship over God’s dominion. So are all environmentalists patriots or enemies?

Trying to fit any broad group of people into a cubby hole is impossible. Why are we so hell bent on devisive lables?

Let me ask you this...

...since I didn’t really get an answer from someone else when I asked it…

Can you please give me your very clear definitions of the words “Conservative” and “liberal”?

Also, is it possible, in your opinion, to be moderate…in other words to hold some conservative views and some liberal views (depending on what those are)? And if it is possible, do you think that it is acceptable?

I can't...

...answer your question about definitions, but I can give you my opinion about moderateness (is that even a word?).

I’ve often seen comments (not necessarily on this site) that having your beliefs fall “in the centre” means that you don’t stand for anything, that you constantly flip-flop on issues without ever settling on an opinion.

Obviously, I don’t believe that is the case. As an example, I believe in small government and I also believe in social safety nets. I believe in free markets, but I don’t believe that governments are bad and private companies are good. I don’t believe in unionisation but that doesn’t I believe that an employer has the right abuse and take advantage of employees.

Amazingly, my head hasn’t exploded from any of this.

You and I are in agreement...

...I think we make up a large portion of the general population…we just need to give each other permission to not wear a label…

I was hoping to hear a response, also, from Pete.

Thank you for your thoughts, none the less=)

my head has yet to explode, as well=)

As a liberal...

[Let’s face it—I live in New York City. I’m a liberal.]

I find a lot of the politically left-or-right goals on here a little odd. If you saw a goal here that was something like “make a conservative Republican admit that they’re an idiot”, you’d wince too. I mean, were you all really planning on “curing” half our country by occasionally writing things on a goal here? I like you here and respect your opinion, but I’m not going to change my political views wholesale just because. Maybe, “start a political blog” or “write letters to the editor” is a better goal. That other goal is designed to attract people who just want to shout at each other…

Snookie

I'm in NY too

and I’m not a liberal. I find a lot of the political goals here a bit odd as well. But, I never go onto to those goals and start fights about it with them. I think people are way more concerned with it than they need to be. We are not asking them to change their political views for us.

That doesn’t mean we cannot have a goal here to try and convince people online or in our everyday lives. This is all that is meant by the goal… it’s been blown way out of proportion.

Thanks for the sensible response.

good sis...

...it seems that you perceive people are fighting with you when the disagree with you…

Disagreeing is not fighting…

I know you promised to delete my posts, I write it to you, hope you will open your mind, think about it and read it…but mostly I write it for my subscribers who will still be able to read it after you delete it.

Snookie

Jennifer Paris...

Why are you trying to keep this going? I’ll explain again! In my book, there is respectfully disagreeing and there is online bullying/fighting/attacking. I consider that you were attempting to start a ridiculous online fight with me based on how you threw a temper tantrum by…

a) implying ridiculous and racist things about me/my type of people

b) blocked me so that I couldn’t have a chance to reply to you.

c) then unblock me and actual expect me to take you seriously. How am I supposed to believe you when you continue through that time to post things about me on other goals and locations?

When we first started talking on this thread I liked you. You posed your questions in a respectful manner and let me type my responses. However, your “limey fuck” and “Nazi posts” caused me to not want to discuss things further with you. Not to mention having 50 messages each time I checked my email and most of them rude making jokes about Hitler. Because of your intolerance for me, you accusations of me, and your censorship of me I have chosen to discontinue any political discussion with you.

You mention your subscribers. I could really care less what you hope your subscribers will see. Maybe they’ll think you’re childish person who won’t leave me alone when I’ve asked you to? Are you stalking me on here now? I notice you’ve written an awful lot about me on other goals. What’s you’re problem? Is posting about me really worth your time?

I’ve asked you nicely to leave me alone. I’ve even told you to piss off. You just don’t take a clue. So, let’s make a deal. I’ll leave this post here so you can feel like you’ve had your last word and in return you can leave me alone! I sincerely hope you’re not one of the 2 new subscribers I picked up over the night. Honestly, we are completely different.

You need to realise that once you treat someone in this manner they have a right to choose not to communicate with you. So please stop posting me messages and posting hurtful comments and lies about me on other goals. That would be the respectful and adult thing to do so I’m hoping you’ll do that. I have my own things going on with my husband and I not being in the same country and I use 43 as a way to talk with friends and write down dreams for the future. I don’t want 43things to be about people harassing me.

JenniferParis is seeking to understand before being understood

you know...

...I did not finish reading this, but all of my subscribers can read what I wrote, and they know it was not me who said those thing…

I never called you any names, that “f” word is not in my vocabulary…and I tried to lighten things by laughing at the limey thing saying we should be called “salad creams” or something…as I too am English…and I also called myself a “frog” perhaps you missed that…

you are confusing all of the people who tried to communicate with you. I quit. You will just not stop slandering me.

Yes, I subscribed to you because you are leaving slanderous comments here and there…it is really too much. You need to stop.

You delete our posts and then accuse us of terrible things…if you don’t slander me, then I will not comment…if you do, then I will stand up for myself.

You are truely out of control.

New York - Liberal ? No Way

Why I believe New York is not Liberal:

1) Wall Street and all that goes with it
2) People Eat Fast Food in NY. True liberals do not eat at chain restaurants, especially the Oliva Garden.
3) New Yorkers wear way too many closed toe shoes. Toe nakedness is the hallmark of a true liberal.

Sorry Mary, you ain’t that liberal after all !

LOL !

Snookie

well,

New Yorkers voted for Hillary so I think that makes the majority of them VERY LIBERAL :-) Lazio would have been better… that’s just my opinion though.

Mary Hawkins is ignoring cheers on this site for now. I still like you!

1 2 3!

1) Yeah, but you’d be surprised how living close to people of all stripes changes you. Even if you don’t love your neighbor, you’re still more likely to want your government to do something about the homeless or crime in other neighborhoods or the high cost of housing…

2) Uh, not me! I did go to an Olive Garden over the holidays, but I spent it in Kentucky…

3) It’s hard to have toe cleavage in the dead of winter, but ever been here when it gets hot and sticky and humid? We’re all wearing flip-flops then. Mine have some extra height so I don’t have to get anywhere near those sidewalks. [...and so I’m taller…]
