learn how to hotwire a car
How To Hotwire A 93-97 Geo Prizm 2 years ago

I did it to my 94 Prizm, and here’s how:

Larger pic available: http://www.danjessberger.com

1) Pop off the large panel under the steering wheel. (3 screws)
2) Un-clip the wiring harness on the ignition.
3) To get the car to “Accessory” status, connect all pins together except the bottom-right one.
4) To trigger the starter, temporarily connect the bottom-right pin to one of the others. (usually ~2 seconds)
5) Once she’s fired up, disconnect the bottom-right pin from the others.

AWESOME...but...

Now the real question is why would you want to steal a Geo Prism?
Hahahaha!

Duh!

First of all, a prism is a little triangular thing that refracts light, a Prizm is a car. To answer your question…because it’s a Corolla, duh…

...and for the slow kids out there, this wiring also therefore works on 93-97 Corollas.

Good to know!

I’ve always heard that Corollas are the most stolen car, now I know why!

How would you hotwire a ‘96 Explorer?

Beats me :/

Yeah, Corollas are up there on the list, but fall behind Accords and Civics I think.

I figured out how to do mine because I have the key. Every car is different, but very similar. The first step towards hotwiring any car is gaining access to the ignition switch.

If you’ve got a key and a voltmeter, simply record what each wire’s voltage is for each key position (Off, On/Acc, Start).

After you know what the voltage of each wire SHOULD be, simply emulate it without the key, and presto! :)

You rule

You rule Prizms fuckin dominate!

Just plain awesome

Geo Prizms are awesome though. I love mine. It’s a standard which is great and I’ve already doubled the expected maximum mileage. They’re great. I hit a tree today with mine though =[ and it might be totaled.

They last friggin forever

I’m on my second (I wrapped my first around a fire hydrant). I just flipped 220,000 miles last week. I’ll be excited to see it hit all 2s…I’m such a dork…

Steering wheel and gear shift locked

Dude, you have almost saved my life. My ignition lock cylinder broke last week (key won’t turn). I pulled the whole thing out (had to drill out the pin holding it in since I couldn’t even get the key to turn to the accessories position to be able to push the pin in).

Anyway, your hotwiring worked great. However, when I tried to drive, I realized that I couldn’t even get it out of park. The thing is locked up. I jiggled the steering wheel, and it locked up too. I’m thinking maybe I have to get the wiring into the ‘On’ position. Any thoughts?

Long live my ‘95 Geo Prizm!

Whoops

You know, I never actually tried DRIVING after I got it started…lol. After further inspection, I have the same problem you do. It’s got to be a mechanical lock through the ignition switch, and I’m not sure how to bypass it since it’s not electrical like the rest. For consistancy, I’ve attached a descriptive photo of all the ignition pinouts.

you have to keep playing with the wires until you hear 3 slow dings..then Ur gear shifter should unlock however ur steering pin is controlled by ur key movement..ur gunna have to brake it by forseing ur steering wheel to turn

i lost the key last year and had to do it

Ignition wire vs. Starter

Hey thumper, I found this DIY online for a push-button ignition and was thinkin about trying it on my 97 Prizm. The guide is here: http://www.instructables.com/id/SIM4IQUFBGW8EXJ/
It says to find the Ignition wire and the Starter wire, but your diagram of the ignition harness only shows which one is the starter. Is the ignition wire the one labeled Engine, or is it one of the others? Thanks for the help.

UPDATE

Quick update. I found a wiring chart online (http://64.85.6.121/diagrams/printpage.asp?ModelID=19415&MakeID=19) that tells which wire is the starter and which are the TWO ignitions. Now my question is, how do I hook this up to the DIY plans? If anyone can clear this up for me I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

how to get the car into drive

the little black box that has two wires fed into it right above the wiring harness is directly involved with the gears. you need to unscrew the black box so that the metal node is not touching the ignition.

it seemed to have done the trick for me.

thump3r has gotten 2 cheers on this entry.
