And you’ve probably heard of this before, but it really affects your metabolism too. Especially the first couple of years (or so I hear, I was only there in the summer). I spent a summer working up in the tourist industry up in Alaska. And you get this crazy “spring fever”, where you’re buzzing like a hummingbird for days, barely sleeping. Maybe it’s also the excitement of being up there. But I couldn’t resist going on hikes after work, at 11pm!
Eventually, you learn to draw your blackout curtains. I was happy when it started getting dark enough to see the northern lights. And then I wouldn’t go to bed, for fear of missing them, and never getting to see them again.
