I made it through my surgery and am on the rehab path. I just got on my bike outside today! Things are looking good.

I feel your pain......
.....I just had knee surgery on March 21, 2007 for a torn meniscus and I am looking forward to recovery as well. Congrats on getting back on the bike. It must feel great !
Thanks
Take heart. You’ll be able to get on a bike soon. It’s one of the first things I was allowed to do. I discovered that if I didn’t ride for a couple of days that my knee would swell up worse and hurt more. Also, It hurts at first but you got to keep that knee moving. Don’t baby it as far as walking. Good luck!
Better than my doctor
My doctor may be a good surgeon, but his bedside manner pretty much bites. You’ve told me more than he ever has. I just got my bandages off and stitches out today, and it feels so much easier to walk now. I asked about physical therapy, but he said I didn’t need it unless I felt like it wasn’t getting better. He said I should ease into my workouts again. Well, I lift weights, hike, bike, and run, so where am I supposed to start? What about stretching? My knee is still definitely swollen compared to my other knee, so I think I’ll just walk around for now, and try to bend it a little bit further each day, nothing much though. I’d rather be patient and not mess it up again. Maybe that’s babying it a bit, but better safe than sorry. I don’t want to have surgery again. What do you think?
How are you doing now?
surgeons
That’s pretty much the way most surgeons and doctors can be. I would go to physical therapy. The PT’s will try to get you to come in a little too often, but they can give you a lot of info about exercises and things you definitely shouldn’t do. For my meniscus, they told me not to bend it more than 90 degrees for 6 weeks, so as not to pull the stitching. Other than that, ICE, ICE, ICE. I’m at my 3 month mark and I can almost jog!
finances
If I went, each time I would have to pay $40 for my insurance co-pay, and I’m a bit down on finances right now, so maybe I can go in once and ask them what I can do at home.
Did the surgeon REPAIR or REMOVE (a portion) of your meniscus? I had a tear, and they removed they part. They couldn’t fix it, so I have no stitches inside. I had 2 stitches for my incisions, but as I wrote yesterday, they were removed.
I think I do need to go back to icing it like you said. It’ll feel better. I’m in southern california, and the weather is becoming really really nice right now, and it’s so hard for me not to go out and hike and bike and run. Grrr. :)
