Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

FAQ

ceesmiles is getting ready to run another 5K race; 5K has become usual run

watch more black and white classic movies (pre-1950) (read all 6 entries…)
Watched "It Happened One Night" (1934)

Lovely movie with great characters and witty dialogue. If this is the originator of the romantic comedy than lots of movies with this classification do not deserve the label.

Worth it for the hitch hiking scene alone.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)

Is a fabulous b&w with a nice 43 reference in it. Stars Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

Its not pre 1950, but maybe you could just use it for the ‘watch more movies’ goal instead.

Nice suggestion

Did that come out with the new boxed set of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis movies that came out last month? There was a big to-do about it because they were releasing them on the same day…

Oh No!

I didn’t realize I was setting us up for a Bette Davis VS Joan Crawford love-a-thon!

I honestly believe that Joan was a raving lunatic in her personal life, but I get a real kick for some reason watching her play demure sweet girls. She also started as a dancer. That carries a lot of weight for me.

Bette Davis is probably the better actress. She certainly had a better, longer career. She also didn’t “mommie dearest” her children.

And you have pictures too!!

Nah, I try to separate the person from the role (got lectured about it too many times when talking about having crushes on actors and friends said :”You love Lloyd, not John. Be clear.”)

and pssst, I think Davis’ daughter also wrote a not very flattering book about her relationship with her mom but I could be wrong.

Who are Lloyd / John?

Which is the actor and which is the part? Is it Lloyd Bridges? Its the only Lloyd I can think of, but I might be entrenched in the pre-1950 era now.

You are going to have so many messages from me!!

I only half apologize :)

I remembered another Joan Crawford movie that meets the pre-1950 thing…

Mildred Pierce (1945)

I heart Joan.

That is on my Zip list!!

So serendipity in movie picking works.

I still love Davis in Dark Victory, and All about Eve, so if I watch some more Crawford movies, I will understand why they were “rivals”.

Oh and good about the messages

I like to get recommendations…may take me awhile but I like to have something to discuss with people.
