Lose 100 lbs. (read all 57 entries…)
New Year, Fresh Start? 2 years ago

Okay, I gave myself some concrete goals for a month. At the moment, I’ve already messed up about half of them. Looks like I’ll be trying a new set of goals next month.

I’m trying to make a lifestyle change rather than simply doing a diet. I don’t want to lose the wieght and then gain it all back. I’m focussing on raising my general health level and this is part of that.

I haven’t found the proper motivation yet. I’m not motivated by appearance. Without my glasses everyone looks like vaguely human shaped blobs and my face in the mirror isn’t really any different. So, that doesn’t help me.

I have noticed that my clothes aren’t fitting properly right now and the money motivation (as in not buying new clothes) might actually work. I can take things in, but I can’t let them out.

sighs I really don’t know what I’m going to do right now.

This year

I think that breaking down (granulating) all of my goals is going to be my “new year’s resolution” for this year.

Thanks for the encouragement.

don't be discouraged

take each day at a time. perhaps if you don’t try to make too many changes at once you will have better success.

Making the decision that this is a lifestyle change and not a ‘diet’ is key. So you are already on a good path.

This week – try doing ONE thing differently – such as eliminating soft drinks or eating oatmeal for breakfast (just suggestions – you pick that one thing).

How about long term health for motivation?

Best of luck, I’ll be rooting for you ;)

Adding not subtracting

I’m going to try adding in the good stuff before I cut out the bad stuff this time.

I know that I won’t stop sodas cold turkey, but I am down to 1 a day as opposed to two or more.

I think I’m going to focus on eating a better breakfast than last night’s Chinese… grins

Well, I tried the health idea last year and it just didn’t really seem to make a difference. Maybe if I break the health idea down into monetary costs (long-term health care, possible costs of Diabetes) I’ll actually see the impact of what I’m doing today on my future. It will make it a more far-reaching idea and fit into a more general “life plan” for the next five years.

that sounds like a good idea too

I have found that a healthy breakfast has really helped me from getting out of control later in the day.

Good to hear

Hopefully, it will keep me going past the morning duldrums.

Right now, I think I need to remember to bring a healthy snack (say and apple) with me for the mid-morning munchies.

I echo what Todd says...

I’ve been working on losing weight for over a year now seriously, and refocusing my mind on things has been the hardest part for me. Thankfully I know I’ll get there, but it has been an uphill battle at times getting myself to cooperate. I like your ideas of baby-stepping it, though.

Thanks

for your support.

Atkins Diet

I lost 50 lbs. so far on the Atkins plan. It is essential for me, because I’m diabetic. It works!!!
