Are you crazy?

You’d switch Canada for the UK?

Well,

I’ve only seen some of BC in Canada, but from what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t swap it for London, or where I am either.

Hmmm, I'm confused

Are you seriously posting that you want to learn Canadian? What language do you speak? We speak English or French. Depending on where in Canada you want to go one may be more useful than the other. Sure we’ve adapted some words from other languages, that’s the nature of the English language but we aren’t difficult to understand.

I think it seems like alot of people are joking around….which is fun, but no one makes better fun of a Canadian than a Canadian. But just in case some of those comments aren’t jokes or are taken seriously…no one speaks like that in Canada. I have been a lot of places here and never come across anyone who speaks like the Mackenzie brothers.

If you mean you want to learn to meld with Canadian culture. Just be yourself, we like people from other places. We aren’t quick to look down our noses at non Canadians. We are only likely to look down our noses if you are an Canadian versus a Canadien. =)

Même au Québec nous parlons anglais ;)

I assume this is a toungue in cheek goal, we don’t really speak that differently. There are some very small areas on the east coast that have accents and use a wee bit more slang, I think that is where this reputation we have comes from. The only word I use that is Canadian is eh? and I dont punctuate every sentence with it. You only use it on the end of a question, if you truely want to speak Canadian. Other wise you just sound like an immitator. For example Learn Canadian eh, would be improper grammer

No wonder

I’ve been getting funny looks at the pub eh.

Thanks for your clarification eh.

LauralyBeautiful /you find out who your friends are...

Joke!

I can’t resist contributing. I share this one a lot coz I love it so.

Q: How did Canada get it’s name?

A: It was originally CND but when asked how that was spelled the Canadians replied with “C, eh? N, eh? D, eh?”

From the book “How to be Canadian” by Will Ferguson and Ian Ferguson, the following:

When it comes to Alcoholics Anonymous, Canadians don’t know when to stop:

First guy: Did you hear about Bob? He’s in AA.

Second guy: AA, eh?

First: Not AAA. AA, eh?

Second: Eh?

(Paraphrased from my memory; I don’t have the book in front of me.)

A trip out this way,

to Eastern Ontario, or to the maritimes would give you much more of the, Canaijun, eh? talk.
I know plenty of folks here that would fit -eh? in plenty into their tales. Such as,
“so we were just sittin’ there, eh, and there was this huge splash, right there in front of us”
So we may not all be Bob and Doug’s, but for observation of the root of this behaviour, I can point you in the right direction!

Waynesworld is slowly starting to feel better.

I agree with funtash.

Go to the maritimes or certain parts of Eastern Ontario, like Arnprior, to find the Bob and Doug types, eh?

I’m sorry to hear that you’re sick, Cookie. And I sure hope you found out where the washrooms were. ;)

Cookie has gotten 5 cheers on this entry.
