There are so many confronting, challenging and inspirational passages that have been communicated over the years by cinematography, indeed Hollywood has become one of the most powerful mediums in the modern age to portray and confront controversial political, religious and societal values and concerns.

We live in a society that no longer produces to such an extent the great oratory that has stirred the hearts of generations, great leaders who define history, revolutionaries who overthrow the fabric of society or philosophers that challenge the way we think. Though there are still those exceptional few who will leave an indelible mark on history, their eminence seems to hold less weight than some of those remarkable leaders and revolutionaries of the past. It is to them we turn to for wisdom and guidance through the words they spoke and write during their life, we look to the pages of history for stimulation, we read biographies of great men and women for inspiration and we peruse quotes to search for flecks of gold in our somewhat mundane and monotone coloured lives.

Movies are the new medium of expression. Books are commonly regarded as irrelevant, and the study of which is considered an occupation created only for the intellectually driven. Yet movies are becoming more and more widely accepted by all populace. Therefore the potential impact they have to change mindsets, to challenge society and empower evolution is immeasurable. Though there are countless more phrases and quotations that I could add to this collection, I felt from recollection that these are some of the more prominent that have impacted my life in some small way.
