Rainy Summer Day

You know that feeling you get when the rain is falling soft and warm on a summer’s afternoon and you have nowhere to go? So you sit and you listen, and you listen and you sit, and the day passes like nothing at all.

And maybe there’s a little lightning, which is nice, because it spices things up just a touch and gives you a bit of a jolt. And if there’s lightning, there’s definitely thunder because, after all, where would lightning be without thunder? So you feel the rumble, rumbling through your easy chair, and you think, “Hey, this is nice.”

If you’re thinking, really thinking, you’ve got the window open, and that gentle breeze that always comes with midsummer rainstorms is giving your curtains a little toss and maybe even ruffling your carefully-arranged hair. But who are you kidding? It’s summer, and you’ve got summer hair, and it’s windswept and interesting. And that gentle breeze is carrying the wet scent of the outdoors, and you breathe it in, long and deep, because you know that this is the true fragrance of summer.
