geogal happy to be back.

Buy lots of wildflower seeds and periodically throw the seeds out of my car window while driving on highways and interstates (read all 2 entries…)
don't want a kudzoopalooza

when I initially came up with this idea, i thought it would be great fun. I still think that it will be great fun, however, i hope i don’t introduce some crazy species into an area where it doesn’t belong (like the nincompoops who introduced kudzoo here in the south). I should probably do some research on the seeds I want to throw. I guess sunflower seeds would be pretty harmless. Of course, I’ll have to wait until next year to do this. That will give me some time to plan!

madamwitty is waaay too busy for 43T lately

Watch out for those squirrels

Sunflower seeds will probably get eaten up by whatever rodents live in the area. Why do they seem to like sunflower seeds so much? But if you throw enough, at least a few should escape their notice…

redbandita does NOT want to be facebooked, twittered or shared.

Why?

Because they are incredibly nutricious.

What a great idea!

This goal is so cool!
I does not suprize me that you live in the South, as am I. I would love to help you with this goal. I live in Alabama, so I could start here. How cool would it be to get people from every state to do this in the spring!!!

You're right to do research...

I’ve spent time removing invasive/exotic species. It’s not fun. I have a better idea….instead, stop randomly and pick up trash off the highways! That would be a lot more help nods

geogal happy to be back.

not nearly as much fun though!

I’ve picked up trash as well and will continue to do so. I’ll obviously do the research I mentioned. So, still planning on pitching seeds and/or planting bulbs.

kmom2468 is knee deep in the hooah!

Glad to hear you are researching!

Most if not all states have an “Invasive Plants” list online. My state has photos of the invasive species. Perhaps your Master Gardener program, State Forestry Dept. or State Agriculture department has a program that you could volunteer on for reintroducing natives to your area.

Kudzu

Ha! I wish I could find my kudzu pics from driving through that-a ways heading to Blowing Rock – it’s crazy. Like the swamp thing embraced miles & miles, swallowing everything – houses too… yeah, that was a stellar idea. Cheers for the researching.

I’m picturing an army of begonias or wisteria… “The flowers that ate the world”. Maybe there are particular ones that will help gobble up global warming…

I love this goal – I want to take it up this Spring. Make a seedy concoction to keep in the car. :)

jaspurlin is striving for balance

I have a friend, whenever he encounters any kind of wild mushrooms, he takes them and knocks some of the spores onto his hat/clothes, in the hopes of spreading the friendly fungi. This sounds much the same, good idea! Flowers’ll be way nicer than (bleh) goldenrod.

geogal has gotten 10 cheers on this entry.
