The thing that helped me the most was not focusing on the “quiting.” I was opting not to smoke and I did it a day, week and month at a time. I was(am) still a smoker and it really takes the pressure off to not go into it with the notion that you can never have another cigarette. I used the patch at first-to get me over the physical craving and that helped alot. I haven’t smoked since December 2005 but I am still too superstitious to say I quit smoking.

Team Carr to the rescue! Seriously, Chuq, you need this book. Fuck those patches, they will just prolong your addiction. I stopped smoking with that book last year, and it was a revelation, and easy, and fun, yes, fun. Once I’d put out that last cigarette, I knew I would never smoke again, and I haven’t wanted to, not once. The withdrawal period was quick and enjoyable, and life as a non smoker is so much better than I could have imagined it.

There’s a whole team of Allen Carr ex-smokers (except we say “non-smokers” now) that swear by his methods, and I know of several other 43ers who do too, like Evenstar42 for one.

Please, please suspend your disbelief, if you have any. This book is not hokum. It works, and it only costs the price of a couple of packets. You have nothing to lose.
