make a difference
I want to take an Energy Vacation

I’ve decided to try to do this. I was thinking about it this morning, and I realized I can not only make a difference in someone’s life, and not only make a difference in my own life, but I can make a difference in my energy footprint.

I am planning to take an “energy vacation” in the near future. This means that I am going to choose a weekend to shut off all of the electricity, not drive or even use public transportation, and get my butt off of the couch and away from the television. I’m going to stock up on handmade soy candles and cook over the fireplace/eat pb and j’s, etc. I don’t think this is asking too much of myself for two days, and I do think it will be one way I can make a difference…

Now I need to talk my husband into going along with my plan. I am sure he’ll be up for it.

What about your fridge?...

Surely turning off the electricity will make the food in your fridge and freezer go off? I’m just curious because your idea sounds pretty good and I might want to copy it.

Oh, yes...

My plan would be to do this at a time when our fridge is pretty much empty. We tend to do all of our grocery shopping on Thursdays, so I wouldn’t buy anything that needed to stay cold. I think that most of our staples in the fridge (ketchup, mustard, jelly) would be moved to a cooler and set in a cold, dark area. We don’t usually keep much in the freezer besides ice and the occasional frozen lima beans or spinach. Maybe we could plan to try to cook whatever is in the freezer that weekend.

I’m going to have to figure that out for sure. :) Thanks for bringing that up!
