Work on my secret project (read all 6 entries…)

Worth doing!

Operation: Codename  — 2 years ago

I like to have names for the projects I’m working on, and as yet I haven’t found the final name for my project (I know the one I want, but I’m not sure I can get it, so will keep searching).

In the meantime, I need something to codename the various stages of the project (Milestone 1, 2, 3, ad nauseum are just so dull). I guess using My Little Ponies is out; at my first company we named all the computers after Pokemon; my current set computers are named after dogs from comic strips (I’m writing this on Spike, Snoopy’s cousin from Needles), so I don’t really want to reuse those. I was thinking about just using chemical elements, but that seems a little uninspired.

So, I turn to the wondrous 43 Things community in search of better suggestions. The only requirements are that the list of names is relatively long, and that they names are non-offensive (I know, I know).

In return, I shall somehow involve/incorporate you in the secret project (that goes for all suggestors, not just the person whose suggestion I select).

Comments:

Cheese

Cheddar

Colby

Suggestion

Why not use the names of Aztec gods”? It will give you a Grant Morrison/Invisibles resonance.

Whare you doing to the links?

Do they “look like” : http://this/ (only scooshed up without the spaces)?

Show us an example!

Looking at the code

The final /a is getting left off when the comments are posted – even though I do put them in. Arrrrrgh.

Ah

Don’t do the HTML directly. You can find a reference and a practice area over here.

I tried to make a little script for Greasemonkey/Firefox that would display a quick reference underneath text entry areas, but because the Robots have done some fancy-schmancy stuff on the interface front, it only works if you click preview first.

Look, I made a picture of it for you.

Thank you!

Now the links are working, and this way is much easier to remember.

mayhap you might

name the stages after super heroes and heroines ? there seems to be a never ending supply of those in the comic, toy, movie and animation fields and you could always find an appropriate superhero (or supervillian) to adequately name and mark each step.

there is also Shakespearian character names

or pirates

or names of famous painters

celtic mythological your thing? with the edition of celtic heros & heroines ?

are dragons your thing?

mayhap greeks ?

okay i will stop (someone STOP me) but know i like brainstorming… it is one of my favorite things (when the dog bites! when the bee stings! when i’m feeling baaaad!!! i simply remember my favorite things….)

Someone stop her!

Won’t someone think of the children?!

come on

you had to at least like my choice of pictures to depict brainstorming! it is classic! seriously! who couldn’t adore Darth Vader brainstorming about the Death Star?

hehe

I did laugh, I admit it. But do you really think the Sith Lord himself led the Six Sigma team charged with Death Star development? Or that they didn’t hire Inter(galactic)brand to come up with the name for a ridiculous sum of credits (even though it was probably suggested by one of those little robot dog things that I forget the name of for free around a water cooler and overheard by a passing naming consultant)?

evil overlords

and business leaders typically want to run the show… i have done design for perfectionist business owners (aka evil overlords) and generally if they are the boss they want it EXACTLY the way they want it… having no artistic talent or design savvy seems to not hinder them in the least from telling you how the design should look. so possibly vader did hire said company but it is very plausible he called the shots when it came crunch time…

heck i’d let him make those executive decisions if i worked for him…. there is the charming little coercive effect of ‘i’ll strangle you without hands’ that would be adequate motivation for such a choice.

Thanks all!

Thanks for the suggestions so far, but please keep ‘em coming. I’ll set a closing date of midnight Sunday (PST for the avoidance of doubt, since that’s roughly when I’ll wake up).

Holidays

St. Patrick’s day, Valentine’s Day, President’s day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Good Friday, (every day is someone’s birthday), Halloween, Again, the possibilities are endless.

I like the aztec Gods list idea.

:-)

I once...

...designed a game around the different pantheons.

Aztec god names are so damn hard to spell though…

A Well-Read Dog Head is standing right behind you

And difficult to pronounce, too

But, think of the Invisibles. :-)

Ultra-cool.

Look what I found

I once had lunch with Mark Millar, you know.
