become a college professor
I was always told I wasn't smart enough 2 years ago

In elementary school I was thought to be mentally disabled.
Then in high school I was told that I’d never get into college.
Next I was told I was most likely not be able to get into grad school.
Now I’m finishing my PhD and I just got offered my advisors job because she is retiring.
I accepted but now I wander if I am smart enough. My husband says I am. He’s a professor too.

PhD

My PhD will be in Animal and Avian Immunology with a minor in Nutrition.

I am lucky though because my husband is an organic chemist and he knows what it is like to struggle in the sciences.

Your best hope though is to find someone in the academic world with similar interests and see if they would be willing to mentor you. Best of luck.

Congrats

Good for you! I am just starting to think about teaching college full time. I am an adjunct instructor at a local university. It is so much more rewarding than the corporate 9-5 grind. You have given me inspiration to move on my dreams.

SuperHussy has returned. ready to revamp and progress!

Super Congrats!

Your post is such an inspiration. I am finishing my MA and waiting to hear back on my PhD applications and I am on pins an needles (as well as sleep deprived trying to work on my thesis.)

Your husband is right. You are smart enough and capable enough. You have proved them all wrong so far and will continue to do so.

Best of luck!

Livann has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
