Comcast

What’s the story on Comcast?

I spent about half an hour messing around with their web site trying to get some real information about their Internet service, and only found the same buzzwords over and over. Specifically, what am I paying for? I called their phone number for placing an order to talk to someone, and it kept transferring me to Time Warner. Finally, I entered a fake phone number with a 415 area code (it took a few attempts to chance upon one that worked) and placed an order. I asked for a self-installation package. I picked it up the next morning, and the lady at the Comcast place didn’t understand the order, but she gave me the package. I got the package home, and there’s no cable modem. Eh?

I just found out that I own the cable modem I was using in Eureka, so I’m going to have a friend mail me that. So I have to wait several days for Internet service at home.

well, I'm out of cheers

but somehow this seems to call for some vague, empathetic noise anyhow.

Internet service!

It took two hours on the phone with Comcast, but I finally have Internet service at home!

Everyone I talked to at Comcast (six people today, two last week) seemed friendly and intelligent. But more often than not, they had different information. The first person set me up for self-installation, but there was an open order for an installer to come over on Feb 25, and he had never told me. One person told me that self-installation can’t be done if you don’t also have cable TV (an installer needs to come and connect the outdoor cables to the network—but mine were already connected). Another person took care of the whole thing remotely. The installation software messed up, leading to another tech-support call. There were a couple more phone calls to straighten out how much I would pay per month. And it turns out that the self-installation kit I picked up last Monday wasn’t needed at all, so I’m going to return it.

Anyway, it’s working. Hooray!

laurencresswell is back after a year!

Oh lord!

ok, I know this was a while ago and your internet is probably working just fine, but after talking to several different people with different information, having technicians arrive at the house that didn’t know what they were supposed to do, having them install a line to our apartment and mess it up, and receiving incorrect bills, my boyfriend and I decided that we could not give them our business. What a time waster it was to try to deal with them. There is enough free wireless around now that we survive. And now we have wonderful neighbors downstairs and we can get on through their network connection. Hooray!
