Australia has accepted me as one of their own…god help them. All I have to do now is wait for my letter to invite me to a ceremony. Cant believe this has happened so quickly.

How long did u wait until u got notified for an interview from the day u sent in ur application. or did u have to make a booking?
I sent in my application end of Nov06. I got a letter about mid Dec saying they had received my details and to call to arrange an interview. i rang them and the first available interview time was at the start of Feb. All in all, given that it is government department, i thought everything went very smoothly. I got a letter last week confirming my application was approved and that it normally took about 6 months before I could attend a ceremony.

In your letter they send you to arrange an interview time, at the back they give you a list of “responsibilities & priviliges of becoming an Australian citizen”...such as being able to vote and apply for an Australian passport etc. They just ask you about these, so as long as you can list a few of these, you’ll be fine :)

So, what are the benefits of becoming an Ozzie? Are healthcare, tax benefits, etc better in Australia compared to, say, the US?
