Live in the desert
Stark, Rugged Beauty 2 years ago
I live in the High Desert, where winters are down below freezing and summers are well into the triple digits. I’ve visited nearly half of the States in the Union, including Alaska, Hawaii and all the “cool” states to live in. I’ve lived The American Dream in Sunny California, been a wanna-be farmer in Rural Georgia, lived in the Dallas-Ft.Worth metroplex – and I can say, one of the best places I’ve been is the desert here in Nevada.
The Good -
  • Awesome sunsets & sunrises
  • No alergies (although quite a bit of dust and sand)
  • Sunny nearly all year
  • Surprising diversity of wildlife
  • Sand is better than mud when wet
  • Lots of sunny days
    The Bad -
  • Occational scorpion in the house (you learn to respect & live with them outside)
  • Very dry air – need to drink LOTS of water, use lotion everywhere, use lip balm, hair conditioner and sunscreen all year
  • Skin cancer and cateracts are more common in the desert due to all those lovely sunny days
  • Have to irrigate a LOT, and some deserts don’t have reliable aquifers or their aquifers are not being re-charged as people use the water

Me too!

I loved it. I’ve lived in Tuscon, Sedona, and Ridgecrest.

I miss the deserts still!

I spent my freshman year in high school

in a school in Sedona.

I worked as a waitress (very briefly) in a dude ranch in Tuscon.

I was (for a month or two?)

a waitress at the Lazy K Bar Ranch in Tuscon. I’m sure the resort is fine, but it was room & board and $150 a month. The closest thing to slavery I’ve ever done. I’m not good “servant” material, I’m too used to being one of the folk going to the resorts instead….

Then I was a “Porterette,” nee janitor, and bathroom attendant at the Sahara Tahoe Casino/hotel. The relationship with the wannabe writer who drank too much ended.

I went back to school, again, and eventually (1 fiancee and 3 living spots later) rented this house with two bedrooms. I was going to have a library and a dog, and the single guy who was living there stayed for 3 months, and…

That was 28 (almost 29) years ago.

You guys are going to end up with my biography yet, poor things!

Sedona is lovely

We considered moving to AZ outside of the Flagstaff area, but ended up in Nevada – for various reasons, it appeared that Destiny was pointing us here.

kmom2468 has gotten 3 cheers on this entry.
