Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Des is still alive but has no joy to share

play Spinword
A little bit

I didn’t play for long. I hope it will become available on another platform soon so I can play it some more.

I hope I can...

play it eventually if it ever comes out for XP. It looks very fun and challenging. And who can’t like a word game? :)

Did you see the announcement...

...when Spinword came out for XP? You can try it out here.

No, I didn't.

And I just played a game, and scored a 28,000. I guess that’s pretty good for only having been up for about 1.5 hours and it being the first time of playing. It’s pretty fun, I just have to get used to using arrow keys and the other keys to control it.

Thanks for the link! :D

Todd Schoonover will miss all his 43T friends

I got 211 words and kept thinking when is it ever going to end. There were lots of words that it recognized that I didn’t, so I lucked out there.

Congratulations! :)

However, that was the first word game I’ve played in probably a year or more, so I’m still proud of my score…even with seeing yours.

I noticed that, too. There were words that I’d never seen, either.

The online version...

...never ends unless you let the board fill up, but the download version has 60 puzzle levels.

The dictionary is unabridged, and has about 330,000 words. The reason for using such a big dictionary is that it makes it easier (read: feasible) to do some of the puzzles in the download version.

Incidentally, Des’ high-score is 4,539,430 with 1,157 words on “Tricky” mode in the download version! She’s very competitive. :-)

I'm hoping March.

You’re top of the list for testing, of course.

Des has gotten 11 cheers on this entry.
