Apparently a friend of mine did this…says he left her a $100 tip for a $6 burger. Not sure I belive him, but he IS pretty lax with his money…

Elizabeth just blah...
I have been in the restaurant industry for far too long to know that this does not happen enough. I am a good waitress/bartender (I’m not being conceited, I’m been promoted from within and have emails sent to our corporate office constantly.)
I can tell you that I am far, far underappreciated for the hard work I put in. I have just graduated college and look forward to having a ‘real’ job. However, when I quit waitressing, my celebration is going to be at a nice restaurant where I both let the waitress know how much he/she is appreciated and back it up with cash.
It is often times that the people who tell you that you are a FANTASTIC waitress are the worst tippers! Such a shame that waiters/esses are treated like this. I commend you for this goal. I make 3.18/hour regardless if I get a $100 tip or a $3.00 tip. In my opinion, if you sit at the table…a $5.00 minimum is expected. WHO TIPS 2.00 anyways? What the hell is that supposed to buy?
I agree! Waitressing has GOT to be hard and I’ve met my share of good and bad waitresses/waiters (although I almost always cut them slack and assume they are having a bad day)
But nonetheless, I leave a MINIMUM 20% each time, usually more (I always eat with friends or family so it always ends up over $5 ;) lol)
What I find funny is that (when I was a bit younger, apparently my friends and I look older and more mature now) many restaurants dont want to sit teenagers! Sometimes they would take people who came after us and sometimes they would not even sit us at all! Yet, statistically, teenagers leave the best tips. Apparently it is because people aging round 15-25 often have friends who work in the business so they have a more direct sympathy to the hard work it takes.
But that doesn’t happen much anymore ;) Keep up the good work! The world needs more good waitresses! :D
sighmo hasn't been here for a while but is enjoying being back
I know a girl who used to work in a posh restraunt on Stephen’s Green in Dublin and one lunchtime Johnny Depp came in on his own. He had his lunch and left the money on the table. When she picked it up he had tipped something like 150 euro tip for a 10 euro meal. The manager made her chase up the street after him to make sure it wasnt a mistake, which it wasnt.
I know he has loads of money but nice all the same.
