Do you ever catch yourself doing that pinched nose thing? Like when you’re completely exasperated with either yourself or others. . . I like. suck the sides of my nose in which makes the lines around my mouth get lots deeper and I just EXUDE negativity! Do ya? Or, along with the nose thing is the side of the mouth pinchy thing. . .like you’re thinking OH YEAH, RIGHT (usually accompanied with bugging eyeballs)! I need to NOT do these things as they only lead to more negativity and wrinkles. Also, since in my non-smiling state people think I’m sad or depressed (even though I may not be) this attitude doesn’t help. I HATE it when people look at me and say SMILE – I want to slap the peepee out of them! I just have THAT KIND OF FACE if I’m not smiling, people think I’m about to slit my wrists! So anyhow, along with everything else on my list I’m all down and out, let’s just add this one shall we!?

This made me laugh.
Okay, I do not do the nose thing. I even tried a couple times while reading your entry (so funny). I think you need to take a picture of yourself doing it so I can see. Ya, that’s it.
And I’m so with you on the SMILE thing. I grew up with that. It doesn’t happen so much any more but when I was younger… oh, I could have killed somebody. “Don’t tell me to smile. Give me something to smile about!” Sheesh!
Let's call it "flare"
Nose flare! Not pinch. It’s like wiggling your nose in and out, those little parts on your nose that stick out on the bottom, I can wiggle them and when I get pissed, I like wiggle them in tight and huff and puff!
So you get the SMILE thing too huh. I hate that and I still get it! But really, sigh, it’s just people trying to connect with you only they’re too dumb to come up with any better thing to say or way to do it. . .

Oh flare!
I can flare my nose at will but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen someone flare when they’re mad. That would be hilarious. You have to video record it and put it on youtube.com for me to see. ha
It became a huge turnoff when someone would tell me to smile. I felt insulted. But you’re right. People were just trying to connect.
I remember being yelled by a coworker because apparently I never smiled or talked to anyone for that matter. (I was new and shy. Hello.) He called me a robot. I said, “Have you ever said hi to me? Have you ever asked how I was?”
“Oh, how are you?” he says.
And then I smiled.
HA!
I wish I could record that for you, but I don’t have a video camera and if I did, would never figure out how to use it. . .
Yes I know what you mean about being shy. I’ve been shy most of my life but people seem to think I’m stuck up or something. Love your story!

I got stuck up too.
That really bothered me for a time because I’m completely NOT.
I can relate
with both of you on the not smiling thing. I guess I have one of those faces, too. I have been accused of being in a bad mood/not liking people/etc. so many times when in reality I was perfectly content. It’s even caused bad relations with my in-laws. Ugh!
