found a good way to practice this — 1 year ago
Go somewhere public, like a park or the grocery store, whatever. Everyone you see, focus on the idea that like you all of them want happiness and to avoid suffering. Then wish that peace and happiness on each one. Even if you immediately feel aversion to them for some reason, bless them with peace. Picture yourself relieving them of all of their sufferings.
Puts me in a very compassionate and calm mood for the day. Perhaps then I am ready to deal with the people who I KNOW. Sometimes it’s harder to have compassion for them. We already have ideas about whether or not they are worthy of happiness. We’re jealous of some of them , resentful of some, disgusted by others. But strangers- we have no pre-concieved ideas about. So it’s good to start there, and then work up to familiar people.
