raise a daughter
picked out my daughter's name and everything! 4 years ago

well.. this is a goal I cannot control… except if you tell me to sow a lot of seeds to increase the odds! LOL

I only had a brother growing up, but the majority of my cousins were all female and treated me well. I don’t know if that explains why I would rather have a daughter than the obligatory chinese son. I have one rationale for that, the chinese character for good is made up of 2 characters, girl and boy. And the character for girl comes before the boy. ;P

I have names picked out already. Of course, until the day comes, I am still open to name suggestions. I have 2 choices for chinese names, and 2 choices for english names. I love my daughter to have a name that sounds like a boy’s name.

I don’t mind sharing with you, but my daughter’s english name will tentatively be either Aaliyah or Owen. I hope to find more interesting names to name her. The chinese names would sound either like Chen Li-Yah (beautiful elegant), or Chen Kai-Nan (triumphant boy) in mandarin (literal translations).

Nas once wrote these lyrics, “thinkin a word best describin my life, to name my daughter”. I may not be that good, or that introspective.. but it’s an important goal of mine!

And no, the wife probably won’t have a say in this, she can name the son whatever she likes.. LOL

I couldn't help but noticed that ..

Goal #1 is to “Fall in Love” and Goal #6 is to “Raise a Daughter” .. umm are you not in love with your baby’s mother???

Great baby names by the way! I’m chinese and the oldest of 3 girls, my parents gave me a boys name in chinese and I LOVE IT! My english name is really feminine so it balances everything out. A name is very important, my chinese name gives me strength and I’m really proud of it. I’m not too hot about the english name but I was born in France and it sounds good in french so I forgive my dad :P

Here's the explanation!

The missing link between goal #1 and goal #6 is that I am still currently single. I fully understand that it’s odd for me to think about daughters and names now with no partner in sight.

Having said that, I’d never rush into things.. or pressure my significant other about goal #6. It just doesn’t work that way!

Thanks for sharing your story about your names. Hope I’m not alone in thinking that Owen is a nice name for a girl!

Thanks for clearing that up ..

It was just an observation but I’m glad I asked because it really showed a lot of insight into Vince. Sounds like you’re a dad just waiting to be a parent! Thats so wonderful! No matter it be a baby girl or boy, it will definately be welcomed with love.
