legalize prostitution
My Thoughts on this Issue

I am in no way thinking about or actually selling my body or renting anyone else’s, but that does not mean that I don’t think prostitution should be legal.
Legalizing prostitution would get the government out of people’s private business while allowing them to differentiate from licensed prostitutes to girls and women forced into the occupation. They could make prostitution a much safer job to do. Also they can license prostitutes, thus keeping track of them and testing them for STDs.
My body is too precious and sacred to me for me to lend it to just anyone, but I feel that this is a woman’s (/man’s?) choice to make about their body. There are tons of women that have casual sex with random creepy men without getting paid – how is this considered more legal/moral than getting money for it?
The government is not here to instill a moral code in the country’s citizens. The government is here to protect the citizens. Prostitutes don’t hurt people, but provide a service (however nasty). And we can make it much safer for everyone involved if we legalize it.

i absolutely agree with your point of view here. in fact i had a “mock congress” class recently and debated this issue for almost a week, but in the end everyone voted against my argument. it seems like most people don’t look beyond the stigma attached to the idea of prostitution; if they just assume it’s dirty and immoral then it doesn’t deserve to be treated with the same weight as any other controversial topic, which is incredibly frustrating since this needs to be given some thought. i mean, prostitution has been around for thousands of years- it’s not going to stop, no matter what we do to illegalize it! getting rid of it is a lost cause, and i don’t see why so many people are against making it safer.
so anyway, good luck accomplishing your goal…

:)

It is so great to know that there are other like-minded people out there.

And I noticed that too! People are so uneasy when it comes to acknowledging sex and all its aspects – acknowledging that prostitution is a thriving business with as much variety in the customers and the people involved as there is in the world of politics.

I don’t know how I will work to legalize prostitution and make it a more understood and more importantly, safer, industry. I haven’t even decided if this cause is something I should be dedicating my time to (after all,i should be picking my battles). But I hope I can find some way to help, and that I see progress made within our lifetimes.

Thanks again for your intelligent reply. :)
